The Vision
The goals for the homeowners of this large-farm style lot in Chilliwack have always been about friends and family. Their project evolved in 3 phases spanning a total of 14 years, with the homeowner making meaningful additions each time as their children grew.
When we were first brought on board for the project, the family had young children. It was important to have the space needed to entertain everyone and give their children a reason to hang out at home rather than go out. The kids spent their summers in the expansive lawn areas playing soccer and baseball, and as the children grew into teenagers, Vandenberg was asked to build on the original design. A pool, patio, and secluded firepit were added, which gave family and friends of all ages an opportunity to come over and spend time together.
The most recent phase of the project started as a way to make the yard more maintenance-friendly. While the Dewits loved spending time outside, the family now had many more commitments which meant they had less time to work in their yard and tend to the gardens. By adding a cascading stream, a three-hole putting green, and an inviting entry patio, we were able to address their maintenance concerns and still come up with ways to get all of the Dewits outdoors and enjoying time together — 14 years later.
