There was limited access to the property from the street, making it difficult to get our big excavating equipment into the backyard — so we opted to use smaller equipment. We managed to successfully level the yard to make it more accessible, even though it took a little longer to get the job done.

To give their backyard a vacation vibe, we created an outdoor living area adjacent to the house, featuring a grill centre, dining area and a place to relax around a free-standing gas firepit. The entire area is covered by a custom pergola to define the area and provide some shade. The stonework surrounding the grill blends seamlessly with the home’s exterior and matches the elegant retaining wall that separates the living space from the garden beyond.

In a separate part of the yard we built a private area with louvered slats so the homeowners could sit outside on their loungers and enjoy some private time relaxng in the sun. Clean lines and decorative metal panels provide an air of sophistication — and the misting feature we added gives them respite from the blazing summer sun.

To achieve a modern feel, we used high-end materials, including large porcelain tiles and natural stone. To keep the yard looking crisp, clean and easy to maintain we used synthetic turf rather than sod between the two areas. The homeowners now have an elegant, tropical paradise in their own backyard — and the perfect spot to “staycation”.
