As we collaborated with the homeowners and learned what they were looking for, the idea for the bar seating along the pool was born. The expansive patio was the perfect spot for large gatherings, with plenty of extra seating and spots to socialize.

Building on the steep slope in the backyard presented a major geotechnical engineering challenge. Because there were large setbacks from the riverbank, the desired location of the pool had to change, as well as all the hardscaping that surrounded it. These setbacks forced the patio, pool and hot tub onto an uneven section of the yard. But, with this challenge came an opportunity to think outside the box — together, we decided on a solution that made the grade change a unique feature of the property rather than a problem.

With the project complete, the homeowners can cool off during the day, enjoy a soak in the hot tub during sunset, and cozy up by the fire at night. They even invited the Vandenberg team over for a barbecue as a thank-you for our hard work. A beautiful testament to the kind of warm, welcoming people these clients are… and how enjoyable it was to work for them.
